Ingredients
Scale
1/2 cup rolled oats
1 tablespoon chia seeds
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
1 scoop vanilla or chocolate protein powder (optional, for high protein oats)
1 tablespoon maple syrup or honey
1/2 cup milk (dairy or dairy free option)
1/4 cup Greek yogurt (or dairy free yogurt)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips (optional topping)
Instructions
In a jar or container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, and protein powder if you are using it. Mix these dry ingredients well.
Add the maple syrup, milk, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract to the jar.
Stir or shake the mixture thoroughly until all ingredients are fully combined and there are no dry clumps of cocoa powder remaining.
Seal the container and place it in the refrigerator to chill for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. This allows the oats and chia seeds to absorb the liquid and become creamy.
In the morning, check the consistency. If it is too thick, stir in a splash more milk.
Top with mini chocolate chips or your favorite toppings before you enjoy this quick grab and go meal.
Notes
For a richer, brownie batter flavor, increase the cocoa powder to 3 tablespoons and add 1 teaspoon of instant coffee granules.
If you prefer chocolate peanut butter oats, add 1 tablespoon of peanut butter when mixing the wet ingredients.
This recipe is naturally vegetarian. For a vegan chocolate breakfast, ensure you use plant-based milk and yogurt.
