Make simple, high-protein bagels using only Greek yogurt and self-rising flour. This recipe requires no yeast and bakes quickly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup self-rising flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 cup plain non-fat Greek yogurt
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional toppings: Everything bagel seasoning, sesame seeds, or coarse salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine the self-rising flour and Greek yogurt. Mix them together until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead the dough for about 5 to 7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add flour one teaspoon at a time.
  4. Divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long.
  5. Form each rope into a circle by pinching the ends together firmly to seal the bagel shape.
  6. Place the formed bagels on the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Brush the tops of the bagels lightly with the beaten egg wash. Sprinkle with your desired toppings, if using.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the bagels are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Use plain, non-fat Greek yogurt for the best texture and lowest fat content.
  • If you do not have self-rising flour, mix 1 cup of all-purpose flour with 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
  • For a chewier texture, you can briefly boil the bagels in water for 30 seconds per side before brushing with egg wash and baking.
