Make flavorful, sticky honey garlic grilled shrimp quickly. This recipe provides simple steps for a perfect marinade and grilling technique.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • Optional: Wooden or metal skewers

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, olive oil, minced garlic, ginger, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the peeled and deveined shrimp to the marinade. Toss to coat evenly. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes, but no longer than 1 hour.
  3. If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes before use to prevent burning. Thread the marinated shrimp onto the skewers, leaving a small space between each piece.
  4. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (about 400 degrees Fahrenheit). Lightly oil the grill grates.
  5. Place the shrimp skewers on the hot grill. Grill for 2 to 3 minutes per side. Shrimp cooks fast, so watch closely to avoid overcooking.
  6. Brush any remaining marinade over the shrimp during the last minute of cooking, allowing the sugars to caramelize slightly.
  7. Remove the shrimp from the grill when they turn pink and opaque throughout.
  8. Transfer the grilled shrimp to a serving platter. Drizzle with fresh lemon juice before serving.

Notes

  • For easy cleanup, you can cook the shrimp directly on foil placed on the grill grates instead of using skewers.
  • Serve these shrimp over rice or alongside grilled vegetables like asparagus or bell peppers.
  • Garnish with chopped fresh parsley or green onions for color.
