Make rich, flavorful garlic bread with a perfect balance of garlic butter and melted cheese. This recipe yields bread that is crispy outside and soft inside.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread, cut lengthwise
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced finely
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until you have a smooth garlic butter spread.
  3. Place the cut bread halves on a baking sheet, cut-side up.
  4. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the entire cut surface of both bread halves.
  5. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese evenly over the buttered surfaces.
  6. Top with the grated Parmesan cheese.
  7. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the edges of the bread are golden brown and the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  8. For extra crispiness, switch the oven to broil for the last 1 to 2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  9. Remove from the oven, slice into serving pieces, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use fresh garlic for the best flavor.
  • If you prefer a softer interior, wrap the bread loosely in foil before baking for the first 10 minutes, then uncover to melt the cheese.
  • You can substitute Monterey Jack for some of the mozzarella for a different melt texture.
