A recipe for pan-seared tilapia fillets served with a simple, flavorful pepper sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 (6 ounce) tilapia fillets
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. Pat the tilapia fillets dry and season both sides with salt and pepper.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  3. Sear the tilapia fillets for 3 to 4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through. Remove the fish from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Add the butter to the same skillet. Add the chopped onion and sliced bell peppers. Cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  5. Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Pour in the chicken broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Let the broth simmer and reduce slightly for 2 minutes.
  7. Stir in the heavy cream and dried oregano. Cook until the sauce thickens slightly, about 3 minutes. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  8. Return the tilapia fillets to the skillet. Spoon the pepper sauce over the fish.
  9. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier sauce, add 1/4 teaspoon of red pepper flakes with the garlic.
  • You can bake the tilapia at 400°F for 12 minutes instead of searing.
  • Serve this dish over rice or with steamed vegetables.
